Different organisations and individuals continued to express condolences over the death of former Premier Begum Khaleda Zia, who breathed her last on Tuesday and was buried with state honour on Wednesday.
They highlighted Begum Zia's lifelong struggle for sustaining the country's democracy and her unwavering stance for the sake of the country and the people against many odds.
Agrani Bank PLC hosted a 'doa mahfil' at the bank's head office in the capital's Dilkusha area on Tuesday evening, seeking the salvation of her departed soul.
Agrani Bank's Board of Directors' Chairman Syed Abu Naser Bukhtear Ahmed, directors Dr. Mohammad Fazlul Hoque, Kabirul Ezdani Khan, Mohammad Sultan Mahmud, Muzaffar Ahmed and Md. Sayed Kutub, Managing Director Md. Anwarul Islam, deputy managing directors, and general managers were present in the programme.
The Rupali Bank PLC, in its board of directors meeting on Tuesday, expressed deep condolences over the passing of Khaleda. A condolence note was adopted, and a special prayer was offered for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
The prayer was attended by its Board of Directors Chairman Md. Nazrul Huda, directors Md. Abu Yousuf Miah, Shoaeb Ahmed, A. B. M. Showkat Iqbal Shaheen, Mujib Ahmad Siddiqui and A H M Moyeen Uddin, and Managing Director Kazi Md. Wahidul Islam, among others.
The Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association (BCMA) expressed sorrow on the passing of three-time Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and offered condolences.
In a statement, BCMA President Mohammad Amirul Haque said Khaleda Zia was a unique and influential figure in the history of Bangladesh's political evolution. As the country's first female prime minister, she overcame all obstacles and became a symbol of determination, courage and unwavering commitment to her ideals. Her passing has created a profound void in the political and national life, and also brought deep sorrow to the hearts of millions of people inspired by her leadership.
"In this time of grief, we remember with deep respect her public service and long-standing contributions to the people. Her contributions to political sphere will remain a memorable and significant part of our national history," he added.
On behalf of the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) board of directors and all members, its President Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) expressed profound sorrow at the death of Begum Zia.
In a condolence message, the BCI President said: "Khaleda Zia was a name synonymous with strong leadership in Bangladesh's democratic movement and nation-building."
Recollecting her contributions to the development of the country's industrial and commercial sectors, he said: "During Begum Zia's tenure, the foundation of industrialisation was laid by promoting the practices of free-market economy and encouraging the private sector, which played a supportive role in strengthening the backbone of present economy. With her demise, the country and the nation have lost a devoted and patriotic leader."
In a separate statement, the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) also expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Khaleda Zia.
"Her role in restoring the parliamentary democracy, leading the movement against autocracy, expanding women's education, and advancing women's empowerment remains a defining chapter in the nation's political history."
A. K. M. Hafizullah Khan, BASIS Administrator, said: "Her leadership, sacrifice, and long struggle go far beyond political history - they are deeply rooted in the hearts of millions. Her fearless leadership will continue to guide future generations."
