The government Sunday decided to deploy additional 6,000 police and 1,900 RAB personnel to shore up security ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
A home ministry meeting on law and order chaired by home secretary Abdul Karim made the decision.
Inspector general of police Noor Mohammad, director general of RAB Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Naim Ahmed and the president and the general secretary of Dhaka City Shop Owners Association were present.
The home secretary told reporters that the Special Branch of the police would monitor the security arrangements.
The police will post foot patrols in 429 spots, deploy 136 mobile teams, 24 Detective Branch teams, 100 motor cycle patrols and 500 police members to facilitate traffic.
Five battalions of RAB would be deployed at different markets and alleys of the city and the striking force would also be on duty, Karim said.
Karim said law-enforcement agencies would help force taxi and autorickshaw drivers to take passengers to their preferred destinations during Ramadan.
"The deployment of RAB members has already started. The deployment of all members would be complete in a few days," Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, the RAB chief, told the agency.
He said reconnaissance would intensify especially during sahri and iftar.
RAB members in 200 teams would patrol the alleys of the capital with motorcycles to allow people to return home safely after shopping.
Besides, patrol in vehicles would also work.
One or two weeks before the Eid, Ansars and other forces will watch bus terminals, rail stations and river ports to ensure safety of home-bound passengers and swoop on ticket touts, Khandaker said.
