Motorcyclist dies 13 days after brick attack in city

A motorcyclist who sustained critical injuries after being struck on the head with a brick in the capital's Shewrapara area of Mirpur died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment, 13 days after the attack.

The deceased, Sajid Chowdhury Rafi, 21, had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

OC of Kafrul Police Station Md Sazzad Hossain said Rafi succumbed to his injuries on Monday.Three people - prime accused Md Parvez, Faisal alias Kalu and Anwar Hossain Babu - have been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to police, the incident took place around 1:15 am on June 9 when Rafi was returning home on his motorcycle through East Shewrapara.

One person lying in wait signalled him to stop. When he ignored the signal, another individual hurled a brick at the moving motorcycle, causing him to lose control and fall onto the road. He was later taken to hospital by an auto-rickshaw.

CCTV footage of the incident that circulated on social media initially led many to believe it was an attempted motorcycle robbery. However, after analysing the footage, police found that the attackers were known to the victim, the OC said.
