Moulvibazar traders place 6-point demand, give 7-day ultimatum

The Moulvibazar Baboshayee Samity (traders' association) in Old Dhaka has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the authorities concerned, demanding justice for the brutal murder of Md. Sohag, a scrap trader who was killed in broad daylight on July 9.
At a press conference, held at the association's office in the capital on Monday, the leaders placed a six-point demand, warning of tougher nationwide protests if their demands are not met within the deadline.
The leaders urged the authorities to ensure exemplary punishment for those involved in the killing and to ensure security of businesspeople.
Their six-point demands are: ensuring proper investigation and justice for the murder of Sohag; taking strict law-enforcement measures to restore safety of traders; arresting all the accused involved within seven days and ensuring the highest exemplary punishment; increasing army patrols in the business zones of Old Dhaka; ensuring proactive police action to eradicate terrorism, juvenile gangs, extortion, and drugs; and announcing tougher, nationwide protest programmes if the demands are not fulfilled within seven days.
