CHITTAGONG, Oct 07: Drivers using their old 'paper book' driving licences will have to convert to the new high security card licences by October 16 this year or face legal action.
This step has been taken to counter forgery, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) sources said adding there was abundant scope of doctoring in the old 'paper book' licences.
Non-professional drivers using 'paper book' licences will get the new licences for a fee of Tk 1900. In case of professional drivers, the new licences for a five-year term would be issued on payment Tk 950 as fees. Non-professional drivers and the professional ones are required to renew their licences on expiry of 10 years and five years respectively.
This latest step says a BRTA official would increase revenue of the government on one hand and licence related corruption and deception would decline on the other.
Movement of vehicles with old licence won't be allowed after Oct 16
