Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MoWCA) on Wednesday signed a deal with 11 ministries concerned to strengthen cooperation to prevent violence against women.
The ministries include Health and Family Welfare, Social Welfare, Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Home, Information, Education, Religious Affairs, Youth and Sports, Posts Telecommunications and Information Technology, Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, and Labour and Employment, according to a press statement.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will further consolidate the relationship among the ministries to implement their programmes on prevention of violence against women, the release said.
Abul Hossain, director at the Multi-Sectoral Programme on Violence against Women, moderated the signing ceremony while MoWCA secretary Nasima Begum was present as the chief guest.
Additional secretaries of the 11 ministries were present, among others.
Because of misuse of technologies, the cruelty of tortures and harassments has increased on women and children, said Nasima Begum at the function.
She also urged the ministries to stay beside MoWCA in ensuring a women-friendly environment in Bangladesh.
