Mozena inaugurates American Corner in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb-18: Dan W Mozena, US Ambassador in Bangladesh inaugurated American Corner at Upasahar area in Rajshahi this afternoon.

The US Corner has been set up in Rajshahi after 42-year of torching of USIS( United States Information Services)centre at Talamari in Rajshahi by a number of unruly students of Rajshahi University following a student agitation against US policy in 1973.

The US Corner has been set up in partnership with Language Profiency Centre in Rajshahi. From the US Corner, people of Rajshahi will enjoy the benefit of learning various US related programmes including information on opportunity of education in the USA though its online network services connected to over 400 US outlets world wide, informed Dan W Mozena after inaugurating the centre.

US government donated education materials, computers and related materials worth about Tk 7.9 million (100,000 US dollar) for the US Corner in Rajshahi.

Earlier this morning the US Ambassador arrived in Rajshahi for a two-day visit. On Wednesday he will visit Varendra Research Museum here and the inaugurate renovated works of the museum completed at a cost of Tk 7.5 million provided by Cultural Preservation Fund of US Embassy.
