Finance Minister AMA Muhith Wednesday urged the students of South Asian countries to further develop ties among themselves and also cement their relationship more strongly, reports UNB.
Inaugurating the 6th South Asian Economics Students' Meet (SAESM) 2009 in the city Wednesday morning, he said the conference would hold discussions about the impact of economic development on different aspects of food security, agriculture, industry, trade, infrastructure, poverty, entrepreneurship and human development.
The Finance Minister also urged the SAESM to have their own website for better relations and communication.
The two-day conference, at Hotel Sheraton in the city, has been organised by the Department of Economics of Dhaka University.
Renowned economist and chairman of Department of Economics of Dhaka University Dr. Abul Barkat presided over the inaugural session.
The meet's Bangladesh coordinator Dr. Selim Raihan, India coordinator Dr. Deb Kusum Das, Nepal coordinator Dr. Bishwambher Pyakuryal, Pakistan coordinator Dr. Turab Hussain and Sri Lanka coordinator Dr. Sirimal Abeyratne also spoke at the session.
About 60 students from different reputed universities of the five South Asian countries-India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh-are taking part in the meet.
