Murder accused among two killed in 'gunfights'

Two people were killed in 'gunfights' in Chattogram and Cumilla districts on Tuesday, reports UNB.

In Chattogram, a murder accused was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Agrabad area under Double Mooring thana of the city early Tuesday.

The dead, Jabed, was a Jubo League activist and was wanted for the murder of former Chhatra League leader Mohiuddin Sohel.

Sudip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Double Mooring thana, said on information that a gang of terrorists was taking drug in Jamburi field area, a team of police conducted the drive.

Sensing the presence of police, the terrorist opened fire on them. In retaliation, the law enforcers fired back, leaving Jabed injured with bullet.

Later, the injured was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Ashikur Rahman, senior assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said after spotting location of Jabed, a team of police led by the OC conducted the drive around 12:20am.

The OC also received bullet on his right leg and is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The police team also recovered a pistol and arms with several round bullets from the spot.

In Cumilla, a suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh near Golabari border area of Sadar upazila early Tuesday.

The dead is Abdul Malek, son of Abdul Khalek, resident of Ramchandrapur village in Chouddogram upazila.

Lt Col Abu Mohhammad Mohiuddin, commanding officer of BGB-10 battalion, said on information about a gunfight between two groups of drug dealers, a team of BGB conducted a drive in Jaluapara area.

When the BGB team reached the spot, the criminals fired shots towards the border troopers, triggering a skirmish.
