Music Awards contest inaugurated in city

The 'Third CityCell-Channel i Music Awards-2007' competition was launched Wednesday with an aim to ensure a fair environment for music practice and honour the dedicated singers and artistes of the country's music world.
CityCell's marketing division chief Ananda Rajshingham and managing director of Channel i Faridur Reja Sagor launched the event at a press conference in the city.
Details about rules and categories of the competition were also disclosed at the press conference. The champion singers and artistes will be awarded in 16 categories including lifetime medal of honour this year.
The categories include classical (instrumental), classical (vocal), Tagore songs, Nazrul songs, folk songs, film songs, modern songs, band music, best songwriter, best singer (debut), best cover design (album), best music video, best sound engineer and best underground band (unpublished).
The event mainly will begin with issuance of letters asking for personal albums from singers and acceptable albums released in 2006 from production houses of audio cassettes, audio CDs and VCDs.
The event will be divided into three phases- preliminary selections, second term selection and final selection. Separate panels of judges with celebrated music experts of the country will be formed to select the best albums of the participants.
The organisers will also declare 'CCMA Popular Awards by Viewers' Choice-2007' for the first time this year in four special categories on the basis of short message services (SMS) by the listeners and viewers.
The four categories are best band, best music video, best modern song and best film song.
