National Flag festival held at DU

The National Flag Festival was held on Dhaka University campus Sunday.

Organised by Jayadhwani Sangskritik Sangathan marking the historical hoisting of the first national flag of independent Bangladesh at the foot of Aparajaya Bangla, DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the festival, according to a news agency.

Designer of the national flag Shib Narayan Das and and BTV director general M Hamid were, among others, present.

Two female freedom fighters Gitashree Chowdhury and Forkan Begum were given ‘Jayadhwani honours’ in the ceremony.

 Artists from ‘Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra’ and ‘Jayadhwani Sangskritik Sangathan’ rendered patriotic songs at the festival.

 The national flag of Bangladesh was first hoisted at a students’ gathering on DU campus on March 2, 1971.
