The National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair-2015 as well as Environment Fair, marking the World Environment Day, will begin today (Sunday) in the capital, reports BSS.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair at 10am at the Krishibid Institute auditorium in the city. After that she will also inaugurate the three-day Environment Fair at trade fair field here," Forest and Environment Minister Anwar Hossain Manju told journalists Saturday at a press conference at a city hotel.
The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over "National Environment Award 2015" to Advocate Monjil Morshed and Abdul Mukit Mojumder for their outstanding contribution to environment preservation and pollution control during the inaugural ceremony.
He said the prime minister would also hand over "Prime Minister's National Award for Tree Plantation" to 30 individuals or organisations for their contribution to the tree plantation campaign.
Noting that 25 per cent of total land of a country must be covered with forest, Manju said presently Bangladesh has forest on its 13 per cent of land.
