Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sayedul Hoque asked Tuesday the navy and coast guards to keep special surveillance along the Bangladesh-Myanmar maritime border to stop intrusion of foreign fishing trawlers into the Bay of Bengal, reports UNB.
There should be special patrolling from estuary of Naaf River to the St. Martin's island, he said.
The minister was talking to reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting that discussed intrusion of foreign fishing trawlers into Bangladesh territorial waters.
The meeting was organised by fisheries and livestock ministry at its office.
The minister said many fishing trawlers had entered into the Bay of Bengal from Myanmar and Thailand, Saint Martin's for illegal fishing.
He also emphasised the presence of coast guard contingents in the maritime boundary for 24 hours to prevent the intrusion.
