The 109th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be celebrated today (Sunday) with elaborate programmes reflecting his revolutionary life and works, reports UNB.
Nazrul was born at Churulia in Burdwan district of West Bengal in 1899. The poet through his powerful poems and songs had inspired the people to fight against injustice and repression during the colonial rule.
Nazrul's unorthodox, rebellious songs and poems were also a great source of inspiration for the freedom fighters during the War of Liberation in 1971.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed gave separate messages paying rich tribute to the National Poet.
In his message, the President said, "The vibrant life and creative works of Kazi Nazrul Islam, a poet of equality and humanity, is our endless source of inspiration."
The CA said, "His writing against injustice, oppression and deprivation was uncompromising."
"Poet Nazrul was strident against imperialism, communalism and superstition of society. He is the source of endless inspiration among people who are struggling for establishing justice in the world", he said.
Government and various socio-cultural organisations have taken up elaborate progrmmes on this occasion.
The CA would inaugurate the national-level programme at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city at 10am on the day.
