The revenue board is adequately empowered to make itself a modern, accountable, transparent and taxpayers' friendly entity, said its chief Saturday.
It is now a complete organisation, which has also created an enabling environment for ensuring business-friendly atmosphere, Md Nojibur Rahman said while presiding over a revenue conference held at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) premises.
Commissioners of income tax, VAT and customs wings across the country attended the conference. Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Abdul Matlub Ahmad was the special guest.
Talking to the FE, the apex body president appreciated the NBR initiative to involve private sector on mobilisation of revenue.
"We have planned to set up a NBR desk at the FBCCI so that business can make different queries to the taxmen," he said.
Once the desk is opened, mid-level NBR officials would discuss ways to resolve problems of business after every 15 days. Also, the NBR chair may visit the desk after every three months, he said.
"We have urged the tax authority to change attitudes towards businesses to work on achieving high target of revenue mobilisation in the current year," he said.
The FBCCI president also recommended the NBR to check mis-declaration of products that affect the genuine businessmen.
"We hope, there will be a business-friendly atmosphere by next six months with the initiatives of both the government and businesses," he said.
In the meeting, the tax authority discussed strategies and work-plan on achieving the revenue target. They also reviewed the tax collection data for the month of July.
Customs policy member Md Farid Uddin, VAT implementation and IT member Md Enayet Hossain and income tax administration and human resource member Md Abdur Razzaque presented papers on revenue collection trend of their respective wings.
A power-point presentation on South Asia Sub-regional Economic Co-operation (SASEC) was also presented in the conference.
