The National Board of Revenue (NBR) plans to take legal actions, including freezing of bank account, against Dhaka Club Limited (DCL) on charge of dodging Value Added Tax (VAT) worth Tk 340 million, reports BSS.

"We have held meeting several times with DCL to realise the unpaid VAT but we did not get any response from them," said commissioner of customs, excise and VAT commissionarate (Dhaka South) of NBR Kazi Mostafizur Rahman.

Talking to the news agency, he said DCL did not pay any VAT on the sales of food and sweet items over the last five years. It also did not pay any VAT on its other services, including bar and salon, he added.

"We've estimated that the elite club has evaded VAT amounting to Taka 340 million in the last five years," Rahman said.

He said the commissionarate will freeze the bank account of the club and take other legal steps as per the section 56 of VAT law 1991.

"As the respectable citizens of the country are members of this prestigious club, we have sought NBR's permission for taking the legal actions," said Rahman.
