NBR urged to impose duty on imported plastic goods

Naseem Group has urged the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to impose supplementary duty (SD) on import of finished plastic products in order to protect local industries and create employment opportunities.
"We want the NBR to impose SD on all sorts of plastic items including PVC plain and corrugated sheets to protect the local industries and ensure employment for our people," Naseem Group managing director Rashid Ali Khan said at a press conference in the city Saturday.
The company currently invests around Tk 1.00 billion with a production range of over a hundred products, plastic items in particular. It has also created employment opportunity for more than 500 people.
Naseem Group chairman Shahid Ali Khan, legal adviser MA Latif Miah and directors Nasir Ali Khan, Iqbal Ali Khan and Kahsif Ali Khan, among others, attended the press conference.
