Newly-appointed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has declared a strict zero-tolerance policy against crime, warning that no political or social identity will be taken into account when taking legal action against criminals.

"Whoever the criminal is, their political or social identity will not be considered," he said while speaking at a "Meet the Press" programme held at the DMP Media Centre in the capital on Wednesday (May 20, 2026).

He added that special drives against crime began in Dhaka on May 1.

He said that strict operations are going on against extortionists, armed criminals, drug dealers, online gamblers and fraudsters, reiterating that DMP maintains a zero-tolerance stance against mugging and extortion.

Mr Mosleh Uddin noted that around 30 million (three crore) people reside in the capital, where crimes such as mugging, drug trafficking, extortion, juvenile gang activity and hacking remain major law enforcement challenges.
