Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim Saturday said that a new law will be enacted by the parliament so that no medical colleges can be established without fulfilling proper requirements, reports BSS.
"No more medical colleges will be given approval without satisfying all the requirements an ideal medical college should have," he said.
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a dialogue programme titled 'Bangladesh: Quality Challenges in Medical Education' at city's LGED auditorium.
Nasim requested private medical college owners not to lower the enrolment score for the applicants.
"A student must have minimum 120 scores out of 200 to enroll in any medical college", he mentioned.
He said that the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) will be strengthened to make the doctors more accountable.
He said, "Two more law will be enacted, -- one for the safety of doctors, so that none can mistreat the doctors and other one for the protection for the patients so that quacks can not do experiments with the patients."
BMDC President Prof ASM Ahmed Amin, Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Dr Pran Gopal Datta, PPRC Executive Chairman Hossain Zillur Rahman also spoke among others.
