Woman's body

recovered in city

Police recovered a woman's body in the Khilkhet area in the capital on Saturday. A duty officer of Khilkhet Police Station told the FE that on information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the woman's body by unearthing a ditch at Tinshofoot, Khilkhet area in the city. He said that police were suspecting that the woman might be strangulated to death and later her body was dumped into the ditch. He said the woman was identified as Sarmin Begum (38). She hailed from Sutarpara village under Fulpur upazila of Mymensingh district. — FE REPORT

Myanmar national held with Yaba pills in Cox's Bazar

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday claimed to have nabbed a Myanmar national with 80,000 pieces of Yaba pills worth Tk 24.0 million (2.40 crore) in Cox's Bazar. The detainee has been identified as Md Kamal Hossain, 22. Acting on a tip-off, two BGB patrol teams took strategic position in the Naf River off the coast of Jaliardwip and intercepted a boat, carrying two drug peddlers, at 1:00 am. The teams managed to arrest one of the drug smugglers and recovered the banned narcotics from him, BGB said in a statement.

Youth kills self by jumping

into Hatirjheel lake

A 24-year-old youth committed suicide by jumping into the lake of Hatirjheel after an altercation with his girlfriend, police said. The deceased was identified as Bozlu Miraj Chowdhury alias Raj, son of late B Zaman Chowdhury. He hailed from Mirpur in the city. Quoting the deceased's mother Sheikh Nadira Begum, Sub- Inspector (SI) Md. Karibel Hasan said Raj jumped into water from Hatirjheel Bridge on Friday midnight and drowned. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. According to family sources, Raj killed himself following complications over his love affair with a girl. — UNB
