Man crushed under train in city
An elderly man was crushed under the wheels of a train at Khilgaon level-crossing on Saturday in the capital. The deceased was identified as Md Fakhrul Islam (59). An official of Government Railway Police (GRP) told the FE that the fatal incident happened when a Dhaka-bound passenger train 'Sundarban Express' from Khulna crushed him at the level-crossing around 8:30am. Police recovered the dead and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The deceased hailed from Jaugora village under Melanda upazila of Jamalpur district. — FE REPORT
Fire guts goods worth Tk150m in Keraniganj

Goods worth Tk 150 million were gutted in a fire that broke out at Prime Print and Packaging Factory in the Rohitpur Industrial Area of Keraniganj on Friday night, officials said on Saturday, reports UNB. It took two and a half hours for seven fire fighers to douse the flames, said Mamun-ur-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj thana. According to Mohsin Sarker, the owner of the factory, not only raw materials but machineries and the two-storey factory building were also damaged in the fire. Azizur Rahman, deputy assistant director (DAD) of Fire Service Headquarters, zone-5, said they came to know about the fire at 11.45pm and soon reached the spot. "Initially we suspect that the fire originated from one of the machines. The exact reason behind the fire will be known after an investigation," said Azizur. — UNB

C'nawabganj man held with Tk 4.8m heroin
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) claimed to have detained a man and seized 2.48kg heroin worth Tk4.84 million from his possession in Chapainawabganj's Shibganj on Saturday. The detainee is Md Mizanur Rahman (27) from Noldobri village of Shibganj upazila. On information, BGB conducted a drive along the Chakpara border around 5:00 am and detained Mizanur with heroin as he tried to escape, Lieutenant Colonel Amir Hossain Mollah, commanding officer of Rohanpur 59 BGB Battalion in Chapainawabganj, said. Legal action will be taken against Mizanur, he added. — UNB
