Fire at city plastic factory
A fire broke out at a plastic factory at Lalbagh in the capital on Friday. However, there was no report of casualties. A duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense central office told the FF that the incident of the fire happened around 12:06 pm at a tin-shed plastic factory. Twelve units of fire fighters rushed to the spot around 12:14pm and doused the flame around 3: 45pm. The fire service official said the incident of fire happened due to wielding work of a power line of the factory. He further said that plastic bottles and raw materials for producing plastic were stored at the factory located at 252 Shahid Nagar, Lalbagh in the city. He said that they would be able to know the extent of damages after completing the investigation. — FE REPORT
Four held with Yaba pills in Cox's Bazar
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday detained drug peddlers with 50,755 Yaba pills worth Tk 15 million (1.50 crore) from Ukhiya in Cox's Bazar. The detainees were identified as Md Shahjahan, 41, Md Ekramul Hossain, 25, Md Dabir Ahmed, 28 and Md Yeasin, 21. Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of BGB-34 conducted a drive at Pangkhali UP in Ukhiya and detained Shahjahan and Ekramul. During the drive, BGB men also seized 50,000 Yaba pills worth Tk 15 million from their possession. In another drive at Rejukhal post, the BGB men nabbed the other two drug peddlers with 755 Yaba pills in a battery-run auto-rickshaw. — UNB
Police hold four over Cumilla journo's murder
CUMILLA, Apr 15: Police have arrested four people in connection with the killing of a local journalist in Burichang upazila of Cumilla. Two of the arrestees have been identified as Md Farhad Mridha, 38, and Md Palash Mia, 34. "The four were nabbed on Thursday night. The names of the two other accused will be disclosed later at a press conference," said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Burichang police station. On Thursday, a murder case was filed with Burichang police station on a complaint from Najma Akter, mother of deceased journalist Mohiuddin Sarker. Md Raju, 24, wanted in several narcotics cases, was named as the main accused in the case along with eight others. — UNB
Suspected terrorist hacked dead in Narail
Narail, Apr 15 (UNB): A 40-year-old suspected terrorist was hacked to death allegedly by some miscreants at Lohagara upazila in Narail early Friday. The deceased was identified as Sohel Khan, of the upazila. There are 13 cases including four murder and arms cases against him, said police. Sheikh Abu Hena Milon, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lohagara police station, said five to seven miscreants attacked Sohel at his home in Purbodigholia village around 12:00 am and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot. At that time, his wife Razia Sultana got injured while trying to save him. Sohel was involved in various terrorist activities in the area, said the OC. — UNB
