31 business entities fined for violation of consumer rights
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined on Sunday 33 business entities across the country over Tk 0.4 million for violation of consumer rights. The DNCRP's 17 officials along with the law enforcement agencies and representatives of district trade bodies and the Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) were present during their raids on the business entities in 18 kitchen markets in the country including Shahjatpur, Bijoynagar, Purana Paltan areas in the capital. —FE REPORT

hospitalised with dengue
The dengue situation in the country is worsening as one fatality was reported in the last 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Sunday taking the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 10 this year. Of the total fatalities, nine were reported in July, data available with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed. Newly-infected 80 people were also hospitalised in the 24 hours ending Sunday morning taking the total infection cases to 2,660 in 2022, official figures revealed. The DGHS in its regular bulletin said among the new patients, 57 were hospitalised in the capital while the rest 23 in hospitals or healthcare facilities elsewhere in the country. Hospitals in Dhaka division, excluding the capital city, admitted two dengue patients in the 24 hours, Chattogram division 20 and Rajshahi division admitted a person infected by the vector-borne disease. — FE REPORT
Flooding death toll rises to 135 as one more dies
One more person died due to floods across the country in the 24 hours to Sunday morning. The number of reported fatalities, from May 17 to July 31, rose to 135, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Of the deceased, 75 were from Sylhet, 43 from Mymensingh, 16 from Rangpur and one from Dhaka divisions. One hundred and seven people drowned in the floodwaters, 16 died in lightning strikes, two from snake bites, one from diarrhoea, and nine due to other reasons. Also, around 27,268 people were hit by floods during the same period. Forty-four upazilas were affected by floods, including 33 in Sylhet, three in Rangpur, seven in Mymensingh and one in Chattogram divisions. — UNB
Online app introduced for
foreign tourists in Bandarban
BANDARBAN, July 31: Local administration introduced an online app aiming to ease the travel permit process for foreign tourists in Bandarban district. From now, the tour guide has no need to submit an application after appearing physically to travel in Bandarban, said deputy commissioner Yeasmin Parvin Tibriji. Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing inaugurated online software at the DC office on Sunday. Foreign tourists, who want to visit Bandarban, can apply on the web software through their tourist guide and will receive their travel permit within five days, said Yeasmin Parvin. — UNB
