BD logs 60 Covid cases, one death
Bangladesh has recorded 60 new cases of the coronavirus in a day, taking the overall tally of infections to 2,042,422. The death toll from the disease rose by one to 29,462 over the 24-hour period, according to the latest government data released on Tuesday. As many as 1,052 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 5.7 percent. With 43 infections, Dhaka logged the highest number of cases among the eight divisions. Another 74 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,008,422. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 98.34 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.44 per cent. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019. — bdnews24.com
Teen drowns in lake at Mirpur

A 19-year-old teenage boy drowned while swimming in a lake at Mirpur National Botanical Garden in the city on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Md Hamza, son of Monir Hossain Sarkar and a resident of Rupnagar area in the city. Hamza along with his uncle Sumon Sarkar went to Mirpur Botanical Garden and he drowned while swimming in a lake there at around 08:00 am, said Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station. On information, divers from local firefighting units rushed to the spot and recovered the body. — UNB
Man stabbed to death in Jashore
JASHORE, Jun 27: A man has been stabbed to death by miscreants in Jashore's Bakchar area. The incident took place at around 09.45 pm on Monday. The deceased was identified as Jasim Uddin, 27, son of Abdus Quddus of Hakoba village in Manirampur upazila. Quoting the relatives of the deceased, police said Jasim came to Jashore from Manirampur in the evening for business purposes. He was severely injured after being stabbed by miscreants in the Bakchar Sheikh Hasina Software Park area of the city. Later, he was taken to Jashore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station Tajul Islam said the body was sent to Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police arrest four over
death of female student
Police have arrested four people, including two women, in connection with the death of a female second-year textile engineering student under mysterious circumstances. The deceased, Mahfuza Jannat, 22, lived at a student dormitory in Dhaka's Lalmatia and worked part-time at a company named Thinking Scrap, said Mohammadpur Police Station chief Abul Kalam Azad. Azad said Jannat reportedly fell sick immediately after returning home from an overnight "office party" early Friday morning. Her friends at the dormitory took her to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital when her situation worsened on Friday, and the on-duty doctors there pronounced Jannat dead. Azad said they suspect some date-rape drugs entered Jannat's system with the drinks she consumed at the party. — bdnews24.com
