Minor girl electrocuted in Magura

An eight-year-old girl was electrocuted at Sreepur upazila of Magura on Thursday evening. The incident happened at Chugachi Purbapara village at Dariyapur union of the upazila. The deceased was identified as Sinthiya Khatun of the same village. Kanchon Kumar Ray, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station said, she was seriously injured when she came in contact with the power line passing over the roof of the house. Later, her parents took her to Dariyapur Health Complex where a duty doctor declared her dead, he said. An unnatural death case has been filed with the police station over the matter, he added. —UNB

Engineer stabbed to death in city

A software engineer was stabbed to death by miscreants while trying to settle a dispute over money transactions in the city’s Dakshinkhan. The deceased was identified as Mosabbir Hossain (27) of the area, confirmed Sumon Mia, sub-inspector (SI) of Dakshinkhan Police Station on Friday. The incident happened around 7:45pm on Thursday in Battala area adjacent to Dakshinkhan Kasaibari Railway gate, said the Si.

After the attack, Mosabbir was taken to Uttara Sector 3 Crescent Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he added. According to friends and family, Mosabbir's younger brother Javed had an argument with some miscreants over money. Later, Mosabbir was stabbed by the miscreants when he tried to settle the dispute between them. —UNB

Body of autorickshaw driver recovered

Police recovered the body of a 45-year-old autorickshaw driver from a betel nut garden at Bamoni union of Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur early Friday. The deceased was Shah Alam Shopon of Abirnagar village of the upazila, confirmed Shipon Barua, officer-n-Ccharge of Raypur Police Station. Shopon didn't return home last night and his family couldn't contact him. Police recovered a body and later his family identified him, said the OC. Initially, it is believed that Shopon was stabbed and strangled sometime in the night. Later, the miscreants left his body in the betel nut garden and took the auto-rickshaw, said the police official. —UNB
