Young couple 'commit suicide' in Magura
MAGURA, Oct 20: A young man and his lover allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Baraichara village in Magura Sadar upazila, police said. The deceased was identified as Swagatam Biswas, 20, and Rupa Sarkar, 25. They were neighbours. Magura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sikandar Ali said, Rupa Sarkar got married to Sujan Sarkar, brother-in-law of Swagatam Biswas's sister, six months ago. As they lived in the same area, the love affair gradually got deeper. Later, a dispute erupted between their families over their relationship. At around 1:00am last night, both Swagatam and Rupa went out of their houses and ingested poison together, said OC Sikandar Ali . — UNB
Two killed over land
dispute in Sirajganj
Two people were killed allegedly by their rivals over a land dispute in Sirajganj's Sadar upazila on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Al-Amin, 32, son of Thandu of Isamati village of the upazila and Al-Amin Sheikh, 35, son of Farhad Khan of the same village. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Sirajul Islam said there was a longstanding dispute between Haider group and Bachchu group, to which the victims belonged, over ownership of a piece of land in the village. The critically injured Al-Amin Sheikh was rescued and first admitted to the 250-bed Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj. When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at night, where he died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital, added the OC. — UNB
Teenager stabbed to death in Sylhet
SYLHET, Oct 20: A teenager was stabbed to death and another was injured over a trivial matter in Sylhet's Golapganj upazila on Thursday. The incident took place at around 07:00 pm on Thursday near Shahi Eidgah of Amura Union's Amoni Bazar area. The deceased was identified as Tazel Ahmed, 18, son of Moin Mia of Amura village under Amura union of the upazila. The injured Tanvir Ahmed, is the son of Shafiq Uddin of the same village. Tanvir Ahmed, who was injured, said a week ago, Apu Ahmed of Kadamrasul village of Amura union locked into an altercation with Tanvir Ahmed on Facebook's Messenger. Following the argument, Apu along with 5-6 youths attacked Tazel and stabbed him on Thursday evening. — UNB
Fire guts shops in Gopalganj
TUNGIPARA, Oct 20: At least three shops were gutted in a fire at Kacharivita Bazar in Kandi union under Kotalipara upazila of the district on Friday. The fire originated from an electric short circuit of a grocery store at around 01.45 am and soon engulfed other adjacent shops. As a result, three shops were completely gutted, Md. Sirajul, in-charge of Kotalipara Fire Station and Civil Defence said. — BSS
