Death row convict of Kashimpur Jail dies

A death row convict of Kashimpur High Security Prison in Gazipur died on Friday while undergoing treatment in the hospital. The dead is Jahirul Huq Bhuiyan (70), son of late Fazil Uddin of Narayanganj's Araihazar area upazila. Senior Jail Super of the prison, Subrata Kumar Bala, confirmed the matter. Rafiqul Islam, resident medical officer of Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, said the inmate was brought to the hospital with chest pain on Thursday night and died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment. — UNB

Journo M Wahidullah passes away

Senior journalist, storyteller, and permanent member of Jatiya Press Club. M Wahidullah has passed away. He was 72.He breathed his last around 2:10 pm on Thursday. He was buried in the city's Banani Graveyard after his namaz-e-janaza on Friday. He was given a guard of honour after namaz-e-janaza at Jatiya Press Club. Wahidullah left behind his wife, a son, two daughters, and a host of colleagues and admirers. Dhaka Reporters Unity President Mursalin Nomani and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel expressed grief and sorrow on behalf of the DRU Executive Committee. Bangladesh Awami League's Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, JPC General Secretary Shyamal Dutta, Chattogram Samity, Dhaka leaders, CJFD leaders, and DRU leaders attended his namaz-e-janaza. They paid last respect to him by placing wreaths at his coffin. — UNB

Daughter hacks man to death in Ctg

A 50-year-old man was hacked to death, allegedly by his daughter, over a trivial matter in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram on Friday. The dead is Abdur Rahman of Putibila Sarai village under the upazila. Police detained the daughter, Humaira Aktar (22), shortly after the incident. Rashedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Lohagara thana, said Humaira hacked her father with a sharp machete when both were engaged in an altercation in the afternoon. On information, the body was recovered from the house and sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said, adding that the Humaira will be interrogated. Local Putibila Union Parishad Chairman Jahangir Hossain Manik said the father and the daughter locked into an altercation over feeding husks to cows. At one stage of the altercation, Humaira hacked her father, leaving him dead on the spot, he added. — UNB
