Cop killed in Bogura road crash

Policeman was killed in a road accident in Banani area of Shajahanpur upazila in Bogura district on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Abdul Latif (48), a constable of Bogura district police. He was from Chariya Shikar area of Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district. Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahjahanpur thana, said Abdul Latif was going to the oil pump in Banani riding his son's motorcycle. On the way, his son lost control of his bike and crashed into a roadside tree. Latif fell on the road and suffered serious injury. Fortunately, the victim's son escaped the injury. Later, he was rescued and taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, added the OC. — UNB

Nurjahan Group MD held over Tk 65b loan default

Police have arrested Zahir Uddin Ahmed Ratan, managing director of Chattogram-based Nurjahan Group, who is accused in dozens of cases over a total of Tk 65 billion in defaulted loans. A team of Chattogram Kotwali thana arrested hism in the city's Badda on Thursday afternoon and took him to the port city. Atanu Chakrabarty, an assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said Zahir has 61 cases against him at the Kotwali, Panchlaish, Pahartali and Khulshi thanas. Zahir has been punished in 26 of these cases. The court also slapped an overseas travel ban on Zahir. Atanu said Zahir defaulted on Tk 65 billion in loans taken from Agrani, Rupali, National and other banks from 2011. — bdnews24.com.

Prime accused in Kamrangirchar murder

case held in Khagrachhari

Police have arrested the prime accused in connection with a murder of a suspected criminal, who was gunned down on October 17, from Khagrachhari district. The arrestees was identified as Picchi Monir, A team of DB police of Lalbagh zone arrested Monir from Khagrachhari district on Wednesday, said deputy police commissioner of Lalbagh DB police Mashiur Rahman. Following interrogation, police also seized a pistol and two bullets used in the murder from Kamrangirchar area. On November 9, police arrested four people in connection with the murder. On October 17, Ramjan Ali alias Petkata Ramjan, an alleged criminal was gunned down by unknown assailants in front of his Kamrangirchar residence. Ramjan had an enmity with Picchi Monir over sharing of money earned from selling stolen valuables and drugs, he said. — UNB
