MBBS entry test results out, 47.83pc pass

The results of the admission test for MBBS course at the country's public and private medical colleges for academic session 2023-24 were published on Sunday. The pass rate stands at 47.83 per cent, up from 35 per cent last year. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen announced the results at 3:00 pm at Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the city on Sunday. The minister also thanked all concerned for holding the examination in a fair atmosphere. "The female candidates outnumbered the male ones in the admission test," said the minister. This year, a total of 1,04,374 students filled up forms for the medical test and of them 1,02,369 appeared for the examinations, he said. The pass mark was fixed at 40 per cent and a total of 49,923 students have come out successful. Of them, 20,457 are males and 29,466 are females. This year's medical entrance exam took place at 44 venues in 19 centres nationwide on Friday.Tanjim Muntaka Sarba secured the top position with 92.5 marks.Samanta said 5,380 candidates are preliminarily eligible for seats at 37 government-run medical colleges based on their test scores, merit and preferences. Secretary to the Health and Family Welfare Ministry Azizur Rahman, BMA President Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Director General of DGHS ABM Khurshid Alam and Director General of Directorate Education Prof Titu Mia were present there. — Agencies

Unidentified man's body found on

BD-Myanmar border

Police recovered the body of an unidentified man, believed to be a member of Myanmar army, along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar district on Sunday. Local people spotted the body of the man wearing green helmet and uniform in Balukhali Customs area in the afternoon and informed police, said Shamim Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya thana. Kaisar, a local youth, said black marks were found on the face of the man and he might have washed ashore at Balukhali from Myanmar's Dekhibunia through the Naf River. Necessary steps will be taken later, said the OC. A tense situation has been prevailing along the border between Bandarban's Naikhongchhari Ghumdhum and Tumbru amid fierce fighting, skirmishes and gunfire between the armed forces of the military junta and insurgent groups inside Myanmar for two weeks. — UNB

Housewife among three burnt in city

Three people including a housewife have sustained burn injuries in a fire from a gas stove in city's Jurain. The victims are Bina Rani Das (35), her brother-in-laws (cousins of her husband) Banomali Das (30) and Topu Das (32) are now undergoing treatment at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). According to the family, a fire suddenly broke out from the gas stove when Bina was cooking around 6:00 pm on Saturday. Hearing her screams, Banomali and Topu rushed to the kitchen and sustained burn injuries while trying to save her by dousing the flame. Md Bachhu Miah, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the matter saying that Bina received 50 per cent burn injuries while Banomli had 20 per cent burns and Topu sustained minor injuries. — UNB
