BSF shoots dead another Bangladeshi in B'baria
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members have shot dead a 23-year-old Bangladeshi youth along the Putia border in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. The dead, Md Hasan, was the son of Jaru Mia of Kaimpur village of Kaimpur union of the upazila. He was a farmer by profession. According to eyewitnesses and BGB, victim Hasan along with some of his friends went to the zero line area of the Indian border in Putia around 9:00 am. A member of BSF from Gate No. 3 of that area opened fire, leaving Hasan injured. His friends Md Yasin and Emon Mia with the help of locals rescued him and brought him to Kasba Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. Raju Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kasba thana, said the body of the youth was kept in the upazila health complex. It would be sent to the district Sadar hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added. — UNB
One kg gold seized at Chattogram airport
Members of National Security Intelligence (NSI) and Customs Intelligence seized a kg of gold from three Dubai returnees at Shah Amanat International Airport on Monday. Director of Shah Amanat International Airport group captain Taslim Ahmed said a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-148 landed at the airport around 6:30 am. Tipped off, a joint team of NSI and Customs Intelligence challenged three passengers of the flight and seized one kg of gold from their possession. The three passengers are Mobarak Ali of Chakaria in Cox's Bazar, Nazmul Haque of Satkania in Chattogram and Anwar Shah of Sandwip. They were not arrested yet. Investigation is going on in this regard. — UNB
DSCC conducts eviction drive for second day in Mugda
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) carried out an eviction drive to widen the main road of the city's Mugda area for the second day. DSCC executive magistrates Mohammad Munurzzaman and Jahangir Alam jointly led the eviction operation on the road. The operation is being conducted in a joint initiative of DSCC and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to widen the Bishwa road-Haider Ali School in Manda on the road to 50-feet one, according to the design of the Detailed Area Plan (DAP). About the eviction drive that started on Sunday, executive magistrate Mohammad Muniruzzaman said many owners are removing their structures spontaneously for the sake of widening the road at the request of the city corporation. — UNB
130 joint secretaries promoted to additional secy
The government has promoted 130 joint secretaries to additional secretaries, raising the number of additional secretaries to 415. The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Monday. According to the ministry sources, there are 212 permanent posts of additional secretary and with this the total number of additional secretaries reached to 415. Among the promoted secretaries, three are in lien, or deputisation at outside bodies. —UNB
