BD reports nine more Covid cases

Bangladesh reported nine more Covid-19 cases in 24 hours until Saturday morning. With the new numbers, the country's total Covid-19 caseload rose to 2,050,143, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The official death toll from the disease remained unchanged at 29,494 as no new fatalities were reported during this period. The daily case test positivity rate was 4.11 per cent as 219 samples were tested, said the DGHS. The recovery and death rates stood at 98.41 per cent and 1.44 per cent, respectively. — UNB

BSF hands over bodies of two Bangladeshis

PANCHAGARH, May 11: Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday handed over the bodies of two Bangladeshi who were shot and killed by their own members on Wednesday. Tetulia Police received the bodies from the Phansidewa Police Station of India, Officer-in-charge of Tetulia Model Police Station Sujoy Kumar Roy said. BGB and BSF officials and family members of the two deceased were present at the time. Later, police handed over the bodies to the families, said the officer, adding that the process of burying the body is going on at night. Earlier on Wednesday night, two young men from Bangladesh were reportedly shot and killed by the BSF, as they allegedly tried to cross into India near Tetulia upazila in Panchagarh. — UNB

Rohingya man shot dead at Teknaf camp

A Rohingya man has been shot dead over a 'power struggle' at a refugee camp in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf. The incident occurred at the Mochni Registered Rohingya Camp in Nhila Union at around 08:30 am on Saturday, said Mohammad Osman Gani, chief of Teknaf police. The deceased was identified as 48-year-old Mohammad Alam, a resident of the camp's E-Block. Alam was headed to a local arbitration meeting in the morning when he was blocked by five to six men as he reached the junction of the C, D, and E blocks, police said, citing locals. — bdnews24.com
