Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman and Chief of the Navy Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan have met Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. 52,000 tonnes of animal waste cleared from Dhaka during Eid
The two Dhaka city corporations have cleaned up a total of 52,000 tonnes of sacrificial animal waste over the three days of Eid-ul-Azha. While the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) officially announced the end of its waste clean-up operations on Monday, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) said it would continue the drive for two more days. Immediately after the morning prayers, animal sacrifices and meat processing began in the alleys and streets of the capital on Eid day, which was Saturday. First Hajj return flight lands
with 369 pilgrims
A total of 369 pilgrims returned home on Tuesday aboard the first Hajj return flight of 2025, marking the beginning of the month-long repatriation of Bangladeshi pilgrims after the successful completion of the holy pilgrimage, reports BSS.
The pilgrims arrived at 10:54 am at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) by a Saudia Airlines flight SV-3803. —BSS
Thirteen fresh Covid-19 cases reported
Thirteen fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours until Tuesday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). With the latest figure, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 20,51,760. The death toll from the virus remains unchanged at 29,500. A total of 101 samples were tested during the latest reporting period of 24 hours, resulting in a daily positivity rate of 12.87 per cent. The overall positivity rate stands at 13.05 per cent till now, while the fatality rate based on detected cases remains at 1.44 per cent, said the DGHS press release. Meanwhile, the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 in the country now stands at 20,19,378. — UNB
38 more dengue patients hospitalised
Thirty-eight more people were hospitalised with dengue in the last 24 hours until Tuesday morning. Of the new patients, 13 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside it.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 428 dengue patients are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country. The number of deaths remained at 23, with no new fatalities reported during this period, the DGHS added. — UNB

A 'notorious drug dealer' was hacked to death in the capital's Pallabi area in the early hours of Tuesday.
