Technician dies falling off city bldg

A sanitary technician died after falling from a multi-storied building in the capital's Kamrangirchar area on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Md Imon (20). According to concerned police station Imon went to the rooftop of a four-storied residential building for doing some sanitary works at Abu Sayeder Bazar at Kosai Lane in Kamrangirchar. At one stage, he slipped from the rooftop and fell on the ground at around 10:30am as stagnant rain water made the rooftop slippery. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical & College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition where the doctor declared him dead soon after arrival. — FE REPORT

Container depot fire

death toll now 51

CHATTOGRAM, July 06: Police on Wednesday recovered remains of one more body from inside the BM Container Depot 32 days after the deadly fire incident in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram. With this recovery, the death toll in the incident has risen to 51. Earlier, on Monday (July 4) evening mortal remains of another victim were recovered for the depot. Suman Bonik, Inspector (Investigation) of Sitakunda police station, said, "While cleaning a tin shed at the depot, workers spotted the human remains and informed police." "Later, a team of police recovered remains of a body, including a skull, at around 11am on Wednesday", he added. — Our Correspondent

Cattle traders robbed of

Tk 3.0m in Meghna

BARISHAL, July 06: A group of cattle traders returning home by a ferry after selling their cattle and goats was robbed of Tk 3.0 million (30 lakh) by armed men in the Meghna River off the coast of Barishal on Tuesday. Faruk Hossain, sub-inspector of Kaliganj River Police, said Aziz Shikdar, a cattle trader, along with 10-15 others, hired the vessel to go to Laxmipur Mollarhat from Char Ekokria for selling 28 cattle and 50 goats ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. While they were returning home after selling all the goats and 18 cattle, armed robbers got on the ferry in the Lalboya area around 06:00 pm, thrashed them and decamped with the cash, the officer said. — UNB
