Body recovered

in city's Gulistan

Police recovered on Friday body of an unidentified man from Golap Shah Mazar in the Gulistan area in the capital. An official of Shahbagh Police Station told the FE that being informed they rushed to the spot and recovered the man with an unconscious state from footpath near the mazar. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending doctor declared him dead. — FE REPORT

Two held for taking money from job seekers

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in taking money from unemployed youths in the name of providing jobs. They used to provide fake appointment letters to the job seekers by taking money. The arrestees were identified as Md Noor Alam (60) and Waziar Rahman alias Babul (25). A team of RAB-4 arrested them from the city's Darus Salam area on Thursday night. RAB said that the arrestees used to allure unemployed educated youths to give them jobs with lucrative salary and thus took money from them. — FE REPORT

Two killed in city accident

Two people were killed and two others injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw crashed into a truck parked on the road in the Shanir Akhra area in the capital's Jatrabari on Friday. The deceased were the auto-rickshaw driver Md Momin Mia, (38), and fish trader Palash Sheikh (45). The injured are Md Shah Ali (36) and Md Sumon (40). Sub-Inspector of Jatrabari Police Station Salman Rahman told the FE that the driver and the truck escaped the scene soon after the fatal accident. He, however, said that they were trying to nab the truck and its driver. — FE REPORT

Shipbreaking worker killed in accident

CHITTAGONG, Jan 13: One worker of a ship breaking yard was killed at Bar Awalia Tahsin Ship Yard at Sonaichhari under Sitakunda in Chattogram last (Thursday) night. The victim was identified as Md Abdur Rahim Tushar (25), son of Md Solaiman of Kurigram district. Sources said, Md Abdur Rahim Tushar was a cutter man of Bar Awalia Tahsin Ship Yard. He was cutting the plates on a scrap ship. Suddenly he fell from the ship and died on the spot around 9 pm last (Thursday) night. — Our Correspondent

Five burnt alive in Ctg fire

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 13: Five persons of a family burnt alive while another got severely injured in a fire at Mohajonpara under Rangunia upazila in Chattogram on Thursday night. The victims were identified as Kangal Basak (68), Lolita Basak (57), Lucky Basak (32), Sourav Basak (12) and Sayanti Basak (six). The injured was identified as Khokan Basak (42). Sources said five members of the family of Khokan Basak, who were asleep in the house, were found burnt alive early Friday. — Our Correspondent
