BD reports 36 more Covid

cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh reported 36 more Covid-19 cases in 24 hours until Saturday morning. With the new numbers, the country's total COVID-19 caseload rose to 2,047,523, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The official death toll from the disease remained unchanged at 29,483 as no new fatalities were reported during this period. The daily case test positivity rate stood at 6.10 per cent as 590 samples were tested, said the DGHS. The recovery and death rates remained unchanged at 98.40 per cent and 1.44 per cent, respectively. — UNB

Five teen gang operators

arrested in city

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five people who operates teen gangs from Dhaka's Mohammadpur area on Friday. The arrestees were identified as Zulfiker Ali, 37, a ringleader of the operator of teen gang of Jamalpur, Harun-or Rashid, 38 of Mymensingh, Shamsuddin Bepari, 48 of Bhola, Krishna Chandra Das, 28 of Munshiganj and Suruj Mia, 30 of Mymensingh districts. Tipped off, a team of Rab-3 conducted a drive in Mohammadia Housing Society and arrested the five people including ringleader Zulfiker who operate two teen gangs 'Diamond' and 'De Dhakka', on Friday night, said Azhar Hossain, assistant superintendent of police. The elite force also seized one foreign made pistol, one magazine, two sharp weapons and seven knives from the possession. — UNB

Truck-easybike collision leaves

five dead in Dumuria

Khulna, Feb 10: Five people, including two women and one child, died and two others were injured in a collision between a brick-laden truck and a three-wheeler easybike in Dumuria upazila of Khulna on Saturday. The deceased were easybike driver Biswajit Biswas, 30, passengers Sabbir Moral, 23, Nipa Dali, 25, a 26-year-old unidentified woman and two-year-old Aumbi Biswas, hailing from several areas of the upazila. Dumuria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Saha confirmed the matter. The accident happened around 3:30 pm when the vehicles collided head-on in Angardoha village in Kharniya union of the upazila, leaving two dead on the spot and five others critically injured. They were rushed to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared the other three dead, said the OC, adding that the rest are now undergoing treatment. — UNB

28-year-old man stabbed to death in Narayanganj

NARAYANGANJ, Feb 10: A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death and another one was injured in the Chashara Balur Math area of Narayanganj on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Al Amin alias Daniel, 28 of Fatullah, and the injured was identified as Shuvo, 22 of Shahjalal area. Daniel was involved in an autorickshaw garage business, and Shuvo is a machine operator in a factory. Taslim Ahmed, inspector (investigation) of Fatullah Model Police Station, confirmed the matter. — UNB
