To ease people's sufferings, the government is planning to introduce commuter trains on Dhaka-Narayanganj and Dhaka-Narsingdi routes marking the occasion of the upcoming Independence Day on March 26 next.
Adviser of the ministries of Road, Transport and Rail Mohammad Fouzul Kabir Khan disclosed this while inaugurating four commuter trains on Dhaka-Joydevpur route and a BRTC bus service on Shibbari-Airport-Gulistan route on Sunday, marking the observation of the Victory Day.
Addressing on separate occasions at Joydevpur station and Shibbari BRT station, he said that all these initiatives have been taken as part of the government's objective to mitigate sufferings of the people.
He said that the Dhaka-Joydevpur commuter trains and the BRTC bus service are likely to reduce travel time while charging affordable fares.
The adviser called upon all to work united for rebuilding the country free from discrimination and said united resistance should have to be built to free the country from corruption in all sectors by ensuring transparency and accountability in all government, non-government organisations.
He also assured of quick completion of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and thanked the local administration, including Gazipur Deputy Commissioner and Police Super for their cooperation to help completing the BRT project.
On the occasion, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Mohammad Ehsanul Hoque, Rail Secretary Mohammad Fahimul Islam, Bangladesh Railway Director General Mohammad Afzal Hossain and BRTC Chairman Mohammad Tajul Islam and Dhaka Transport Cooperation Authority Executive Director Neelima Aktar and Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Bridge Division Secretary on duty Rashidul Hasan were present.
