Nine criminals held

NAOGAON, July 2 (UNB): Nine dacoits of an organised gang, including an accused of August 17 serial bombings and a convicted murderer, were arrested from different parts of the district in last three days until Sunday.
Police started the drive after a jewellery shop employee was killed and another jewellery shop looted within 15 days in June marking deterioration of law and order in the district.
The arrested were identified as Mohammad Ali (28), Omar Faruk alias Morshed (52), Generul Islam alias Sumon (27), Abul Kalam Azad (24), Sumon Ali (23), Haider Ali (28), Mamun-ur-Rashid alias Chandal Ripon (25), Anisur Rahman (24) and Nayan Hossain (23).
Of them, Mohammad Ali is an accused of August 17 serial bombings, Omar Faruk alias Morshed was sentenced to death in absentia by a court in a murder case and Generul Islam alias Sumon was wanted in some murder and dacoity cases.
Dacoits looted jewellery shop at Sharnapatti in the town killing its employee Lebu (28), on June 1. After 15 days, jewellery worth Tk 1.0 million was looted from another shop in the same area.
