Nine Gazipur factories fined for using no ETP

A Department of Environment (DoE) drive saw nine Gazipur factories fined by a mobile court Monday for failure to use Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) and allowing pollutants to enter the surrounding waters, reports bdnews24.com.
The drive will continue against those polluting environment, a statement of the Department of Environment said.
The fined factories were-Orbit Processing Mills Ltd, Angel Composite Knitting Industries Ltd, Crossline Knitting Fabrics Ltd, Pacific Fibre Corporation, Ecocom BD (Pvt) Ltd, Taslim Bricks Manufacturing Ltd, Siraj and Co., Farid and Co., and Mahbub Enterprise.
They were fined Tk 320,000, while preparation for filing cases are underway, the DoE said.
Jamshed Hossain, director of the DoE's Dhaka divisional office, headed the mobile court operations; magistrates Md Nazmul Hassan and Abul Bashar Md Amiruddin accompanied him.
BSTI officials and the police also assisted the mobile court.
