Nine get life term

SATKHIRA, Aug 22 (UNB): A court here Wednesday convicted nine people and awarded them life term imprisonment for killing a man in 2002.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 5000 each, in default, to suffer one year more RI.
The convicts are: Janab Ali, Ajit Ali, Niamat Ali and Amzad Biswas of Maghur Ali village, Sawkat Ali of Maghuri village and Hossain Ali, Hasan Ali, Habibur Rahman and Ershad Ali of Nolta village of Kaliganj Upazila.
According to prosecution, the convicts following a previous enmity strangulated Ehsanul Haq, 50, of Maghur Ali village, to death while he was returning home from Nolta bazar on June 7, 2002. A case was filed.
After examining records and 15 witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Ranu Bilkis Banu handed down the verdict.
