No BD family held hostage in NY

Amid the media speculation that a Bangladeshi family was held hostage in Jamaica in New York city by a group of criminals, a senior official said on Monday night the matter was not related to any Bangladeshi family, reports UNB.
"We've learnt that the matter relates to a Guyanese family, not any Bangladeshi family," M Shameem Ahsan, Consular General at Bangladesh Consulate in New York, told the news agency.
He, however, said that the victims were 'primarily identified' as a Guyanese family and they were trying to obtain further information in this regard.
A Bangladeshi private TV channel ran scroll claiming a Bangladeshi family was held hostage by abductors.
