The Economics Department of Dhaka University (DU) isn't maintaining financial transparency in sphere of receiving money from students for the issuance of 'appeared certificates' (AC).
Several students, who have recently completed their four-year honours course in Economics at DU, alleged Tuesday that the department was taking Tk 50 from every student for an AC without giving any money receipt.
A student of the department said on condition of anonymity that it was really unfair for an institution like DU to receive money from students without providing receipts.
"It's definitely unjust to realise Tk 50 for an AC, which costs Tk five to seven to make, as it was unknown to us for what the money is spent" another fresh graduate said.
When contacted, DU Vice-Chancellor SMA Faiz said that transparency must be ensured in each and every section of the university, adding that either the department has to stop taking money for the ACs or provide receipts for the same.
When asked, Chairman of Economics Department Farid Uddin Ahmed told the FE that they would introduce the receipt system for any exchange of money at the department very soon, claiming that the money earned from the appeared certificates is deposited to the department fund.
