Bangladesh citizens are no more eligible for the Diversity Visa (DV) Programme following an end to the country's 50,000 quota in 2012.
The US Embassy, in a media statement on Monday, requested the Bangladeshi citizens not to take any attempt to enroll in any kind of Diversity Visa lottery programme.
The Embassy's public affairs section issued the statement having learnt that Bangladeshi citizens have received emails claiming they won the US visa lottery or invitations to enroll in the lottery.
"Please note that the US Government does not communicate via email or telephone that an enrollee has won the visa lottery, nor advertise to enroll in the lottery. These emails are fraudulent and are not sent by the US Embassy," it added.
The Embassy said Bangladesh has sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the US over the past five years, and as a result, is no longer eligible for the Diversity Visa Programme.
