Freelance female journalist Sabia Siddique (38) was buried at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial Graveyard in the city Saturday.
Her Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the Shekhertek road number 10 Jam-e-Masjid in Mohammadpur after Zohr prayers.
Sabia was killed in a road accident at about 3:15 pm Friday near Rampura Bridge while crossing the road as a covered van hit and ran over her.
She was first taken to Al Raji Hospital at Banasree in Rampura and was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated. The doctors declared her dead at around 5:30 pm.
Sabia was going to attend the regular weekly event of Quantum Foundation at Banasree Branch which was scheduled to be held at 3:45 pm.
Shovon Devnath, maintenance manager at a factory in Gazipur who rescued Sabia and took her to hospital, told the FE that she was crossing the road when the vehicles were given green signal by the traffic police. She tried to stop the covered van but it did not stop. The accident took place just opposite the police box and a sergeant was there, he added.
Mr Shovon said as none including the on-duty law enforcers came forward to rescue her, he along with a rickshaw-puller and a pedestrian took Sabia to the nearby Al Raji Hospital at Banasree. The hospital authority then sent her to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in their ambulance.
Sabia breathed her last at the DMCH Casualty Department at around 5:30 pm. The news was spread immediately in the media while many of her friends and colleagues reached the hospital along with her family members.
