No poverty after three yrs: Muhith

SYLHET, Aug 2: Finance Minister AMA Muhith said on Sunday poverty came down to 22 per cent in Bangladesh.

He also said poverty would no longer exist in the country after three years in 2018, since the government had been implementing different programmes countrywide effectively.

The programmes already earned high appreciation at home and abroad, he added.

Muhith was addressing the inaugural session of a five-day workshop on 'Combating counterfeiting and piracy' at a resort in Srimangal of Moulvibazar district.

The minister said the National Board of Revenue (NBR) would have to play its due and active role in implementing the national budget. "We are working to expand the tax net," he added.

NBR member Farid Uddin presented the keynote paper of the workshop while Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, State Minister for Finance MA Mannan also spoke as special guests.

NBR chairman Md. Nozibur Rahman chaired it.
