Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured on Saturday (March 29, 2025) that there is no threat of conspiracy in the capital despite it being largely empty due to the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.

"By the grace of Almighty Allah, there is no threat," he said while responding to journalists' queries about concern over a possible conspiracy in the relatively empty capital.

He talked to the media after inspecting the Gabtoli Bus Terminal in Dhaka.

The home adviser's statement comes amid concern over potential disruptive incidents when the capital remains largely deserted especially during the extended Eid vacation.

He said that the public is enjoying a smooth and hassle-free journey toward their respective homes for celebrating the upcoming Eid.

He also said the government has taken effective and people-oriented initiatives aiming to help facilitate backpackers to have a smooth, peaceful and hassle free journey during the festival.

"We (the government) are making all-out efforts to ensure people's safe and convenient Eid journey and make their return to the capital (Dhaka) after the holiday secure," he said.

He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has implemented extensive security measures to ensure foolproof safety in the capital.

"While many are on holidays, police, armed forces, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar, Coast Guard and Fire Service personnel are working tirelessly to maintain law and order in the capital and across the country," he added.

He commended the dedication of law enforcement agencies to their respective duties.

He reassured that all necessary steps have been taken to prevent crimes such as theft, robbery and mugging in the capital during the Eid holiday.

He said that if any conspiracy arises, the government will tackle it with the support of the people.

"When the public stands together, no conspiracy can succeed," he added.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also instructed the traffic department to ensure that major bus terminals, as well as the capital's entry and exit points, remain congestion-free.

He also directed the law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against any complaints of overcharging passengers beyond the fixed fare limits.
