The north Dhaka authority, by dint of its various efforts, has been able to reduce the number of water logging hotspots to 42 this year from 101 last year, Mayor Atiqul Islam said.

"Water logging problem in the city has been decreased significantly in the recent times comparing to several years ago," said the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor.

Even the numbers of water-logging hotspots were 142 when he took over two years ago, said Mr Islam.

"We have formed ten Quick Response Teams (QRTs) for ten regions aiming to reduce water-logging within a shortest possible time," he said.

The Mayor disclosed this while addressing a meet-the-press held at the DNCC headquarters to observe the two years of his taking over the responsibility, a statement said.

He also said the QRTs will work relentlessly on resolving the water logging problem in the city, who could be reached via two hotline numbers--09602222333 and 09602222334.

Besides, city dwellers can also approach the DNCC through 'Shobar Dhaka' app using mobile device, he said.

Replying to a query on traffic jam issue, the Mayor said the authority was planning to undertake a programme for arranging school bus for all school-goers to help reduce traffic congestion.

He will conduct meeting with the education ministry and school authorities soon.

On the occasion of his two years with the DNCC, he said : "I would like the city people to define their level of satisfaction with the DNCC activities for the last two years".

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza, other high-ups and DNCC ward councillors were present at the conference.
