Nurses, midwives and nursing students across the country went out on stoppage on Tuesday to press home their one-point demand, much to the sufferings of patients at different hospitals.
Under the banner of the Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council, they demanded withdrawal of cadre service officials from the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC) and replace them with competent and experienced nursing professionals.
As part of staging work abstention, they took position in different parts of Dhaka city, including in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), for three hours from 9:00 am.
As their demand was not met on Tuesday, the agitators declared a five-hour work abstention for today (Wednesday), consequently signalling a complete shutdown from next day.
However, emergency services, including operating theatres, dialysis, ICU, CCU, HDU and PICU units, will be exempted from the ongoing strike action.
