One killed in police chase on Ctg hill

CHITTAGONG, Apr 1 (UNB): A worker involved in illegal hill cutting was killed as he fell down amid chase by police on the hill slope Monday night.
The deceased was identified as M Yunus (60).
Another worker, Zafar Ullah (40), was seriously injured in the incident.
Talking to UNB, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khulshi Police Station SI Mamun said the police conducted the drive on information that hill cutting was going on at Paharika during the late night.
As a police van arrived at the spot, the workers stopped cutting the hill and tried to run away, he said.
Two workers-Yunus and Zafar Ullah-fell down the hill during the chase, he said, adding that Yunus' body was pierced by an iron rod of a wall adjacent to the base of the hill.
Zafar was also seriously injured as he also crushed against the wall, he added.
The injured were taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital at around 2.00 am Tuesday when doctors pronounced Yunus dead, said SI Zahir of the police camp at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Zafar was undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.
Meanwhile, the police arrested a truck driver, Fazlu (30), and his helper, Alim (25), from the scene.
