One to die, two get life for killing ntv video editor

A Dhaka court sentenced Tuesday a man to death while two others to life term imprisonment for killing ntv video editor Atiqul Islam Atiq in 2009, reports UNB.

The condemned convict was identified as Mohammad Shakil Shikdar of Nalchiti of Jhalakati district. The court also fined him TK 50,000.

The lifers are-Abdullah Mohammad Ibne Ali Sarkar alias Nahid of Narsingdi and Mohammad Forkan of Patuakhali district. The court also fined them TK 50,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in rigorous imprisonment.

Besides, the court also sentenced another accused, Mohammad Khokon, to three years jail and fined him Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer one month more rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the convicts snatched Atiq's motorcycle and opened fire on him at Boro Maghbazar on February 13, 2009 while he was returning home, leaving him injured.

Later, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique, father of Atiq, filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station  the following day.
