September 04, 2014 00:00:00

A lawyer filed a writ petition Wednesday with the High Court (HC) seeking a ban on opening law faculty in private universities without permission of the Supreme Court (SC) and Bangladesh Bar Council, reports BSS.

Advocate Dr Eunus Ali Akand filed the writ making the chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC), education secretary, SC registrar and bar council as the respondents.

"In the writ, I have pleaded for issuing rule on UGC chairman and education secretary asking them as to why directives will not be passed upon them to impose ban on the opening of law faculty in private universities and admitting students in LLB and LLM courses without prior permission of SC or bar council," Akand told the news agency.
